How to read the LM324 pinout
- 01
Find pin 1
One end of the chip has a half-circle notch or a dot; with the notch facing up, the top-left pin is pin 1.
- 02
Count counter-clockwise
Count counter-clockwise from pin 1: go down the left side first, then up the right side from the bottom.
- 03
Check the table below
Look up each pin's function by number in the table below; power/ground are color-coded, and alternate-function signals are in parentheses.
Frequently asked questions
Is the LM324 the same as four LM358s?
Functionally similar — the LM324 is the quad version of the dual LM358, same single-supply behaviour and non-rail-to-rail output. Use the LM324 when you need four amplifiers in one package.
Where are power and ground?
Pin 4 is V+ and pin 11 is GND (V−), shared by all four op-amps. Note this differs from the LM339 comparator, which puts V+ on pin 3 and GND on pin 12.
Why can the output not reach the supply rail?
The LM324 is not rail-to-rail; its output high end stops about 1.5V below V+. Use a rail-to-rail op-amp if you need full-swing output.
Pinout data comes from TI LM324 datasheet (standard DIP-14 numbering). Refer to the actual device datasheet as authoritative for the pinout.
