Is 0805 imperial or metric?
0805 is imperial (80×50 mil ≈ 2.0×1.25mm), corresponding to metric 2012. Note that "0603" is ambiguous: imperial 0603 = 1.6×0.8mm, metric 0603 = 0.6×0.3mm (i.e. imperial 0201) — this tool reads codes as imperial by default.
Is the package size the same as the pad size?
No. The table lists the component body nominal size; the pad (land pattern) on the PCB is larger, designed per IPC-7351 density levels (maximum / nominal / minimum), and should be taken from your CAD package library.
Are the power values accurate?
Typical resistor power varies by manufacturer and material (e.g. 0805 is usually 1/8W, sometimes 1/10W). Refer to the specific device datasheet as authoritative.
Is smaller always better?
Small packages save space but are harder to hand-solder, handle less power, and are more prone to mechanical stress. For hand soldering use ≥0805; volume reflow can go smaller.
